Ecology: Damp woods and clearings.
Blooming Period: August into early September
Typical Height Range: 1 to 3 feet   (3 to 9 dm)

 What to look for in the field: 
  Capitulescence is in the shape of a corymb, often with few branches or flower heads.
  Stems are straight and pubescent, rough to the touch.
  Basal and lowest stem leaves are deciduous by flowering.  Mid- to upper stem leaves are lanceolate or elliptic, prominently veined, somewhat rough to the touch.
  Heads are medium-large, from 2.3 to 3.6 cm wide.  Rays are pale blue-violet to nearly white.  Disc florets are yellow.  Tips of phyllaries are often abruptly recurvedView image of involucre and phyllaries.
