Ecology: Dry open woods or open ground, often sandy.  Full sun to part shade.
Blooming Period: Mid-July to August
Typical Height Range: 8 to 24 inches   (2 to 6 dm)

 What to look for in the field: 
  Capitulescence is in the shape of a corymbHeads are few to many on very short peduncles or in glomerules.
  Stems are straight and glabrous.
  Basal leaves are deciduous by flowering.  Stem leaves are numerous, narrowly lanceolate to linear, becoming reduced in size upwards.
  Ray and disc florets are both white.  Tips of phyllaries have a distinct, green patch, and are spreadingView image of involucre and phyllaries.
