are pubescent

Stems
are often bent at the nodes,
glabrous below, becoming pubescent in-lines above,
sometimes purple-tinged. |
Basal
and lowest stem leaves are deciduous by flowering. Mid-stem
leaves are oblanceolate, toothed, conspicuously
clasping
and constricted (narrowed) above the base; the upper leaves are similar, though less constricted or not at all. |
Heads
are moderately large. Involucres
are broadly vase-shaped. The phyllaries are
recurved. Rays
are pale blue-violet. Disc florets
