Ecology: Saltmarshes and shores of tidal rivers, periodically inundated due to tides.  This is a perennial species.
Blooming Period: Late August into September.
Typical Height Range: 1 to 2 feet.

 What to look for in the field: 
  Capitulescence is in the shape of a weakly-defined panicleBranches are few, not spreading, glabrous  and fleshy (succulent).  Heads are few on long petioles.
  Stems are thin, wiry, glabrous, fleshy.  
  Basal leaves are deciduous by flowering.  Mid- to upper stem leaves are narrowly oblanceolate to linear, untoothed, glabrous and fleshy, sheathing the stem.
  Involucres are narrowly vase-shaped, 9-10 mm high.  Phyllaries are triangular-shaped, long-pointed, with purple edges.  Rays are very pale blue-violet to white.  Disc florets are yellow.    View image of involucre and phyllaries.
