[Our plants are ssp. odora.]

What to look for in the field:
The capitulescence consists of numerous, short, ascending or spreading, recurved branches that are located at the top of the stem.  Heads are crowded in one-sided arrays on pubescent branches.
Stems are straight (not bent at the nodes), but the tip of the stems sometimes arch in a branch-like inflorescence.  Stems are finely short-pubescent below the capitulescence, and gradually become more densely pubescent above.
Basal and lower-most stem leaves are deciduous by flowering.  Stem leaves are numerous, lanceolate, with a single main vein, untoothed, glabrous and densely punctate glandular.  Leaves only gradually become smaller upward.
Foliage is fragrant, with an anise-like scent.
