Roadside wildflowers can be just as exciting as those growing deep within the woods.   These gaywings (Polygala paucifolia) were growing near the picnic area of one of the nicer rest areas along Interstate 91 in Vermont.    They weren't alone, for there were also lots of Canada mayflowers  (Maianthemum canadense),  clintonias (Clintonia borealis) and some trailing arbutus (Epigaea repens) colonies, along with numerous species of fern at the site.   It's one of my favorite places to stop and stretch.
