Housatonic Reflections |

This was one of those occasions where the idea for a photograph comes spontaneously, and unplanned. I had just finished a hike at one of the state parks in western Connecticut and was driving north on Route 7, which closely follows the scenic Housatonic River. I noticed a couple fishermen standing out in the water in hip waders. I thought there would be an interesting photograph, with them silhouetted against the bright reflections of the surrounding hills on the water. So, I pulled off the road and parked. That particular image didn't turn out as nice as I expected, for the foliage in the background hadn't yet reached peak color, and looked a drab green on the slide. As I was surveying the scene, however, a closeup view of a tiny portion of the river provided an excellent reflection of a few trees that had turned color nicely for me. |
