| Northwestern Connecticut used to be a favorite "stomping grounds" for me, and I made many drives and hikes through the area. I had moved to the state the year before and was fascinated with the old New England architecture, especially some of the beautiful churches. I had my eye on the village of South Canaan for some time, and wanted to compose a picture of the South Canaan Meeting House against the backdrop of the foothills. A passing shower one day provided some dramatic lighting. I pulled off the road, hastened out onto a large field, set up camera and tripod and stood there under a large umbrella, snapping pictures as the shadows from the clouds drifted across the landscape, sometimes darkening the hills, at other times darkening the foreground. |
